Abstract
A 59-jear old patient was diagnosed as suffering from reactive perforating collagenosis by the typical clinical findings combined with the typical histological findings two years ago. He presented with rapid worsening of the clinical and the cutaneous situation. Microbiological specimen of the skin lesions identified superinfection of the lesions by candida albicans, pseudomonas aeruginosa, enterococci, coagulase - negative as well as methicillin -resistant staphylococci. In the further course he developed septic multiorgan failure with neurologic changes, circulation failure, renal and hepatic failure. The presented case report demonstrates that reactive perforating collagenosis may take a potentially lethal course of disease due to superinfection of the skin lesions. In the following we present this interesting case and discuss the diagnostic procedure, the clinical course and current therapeutic strategies of reactive perforating collagenosis.
