Abstract

Hyperloop™ systems are presently under preliminary evaluation, with a view to the construction of test facilities of length varying from a few hundred meters to a few kilometres. In the design of Hyperloop (HL) infrastructure, the thermal expansion effect was previously analysed by the authors and revealed as one of its key aspects. Therefore, it is likely that the HL tubes will be designed either with flexible expansion joints to accommodate thermal elongations or, on the contrary, connected to some very rigid piers to absorb axial thermal forces. The dynamic response of the elevated guideway system will be another crucial aspect for the design of HL structures. An effort to tackle this latter question has been carried out within an ongoing project awarded to the company INSE RAIL S.L. (https://inserail.es) by the Centro para el Desarrollo Tecnológico Industrial (CDTI; Spain): Ref. IDI-20211001. As a part of this project, the dynamic response of HL viaducts with both restrained thermal expansion as well as free thermal expansion has been analysed.
