Abstract

Recently a growing interest of the aviation industry to use high strength scandium-aluminium alloys for the construction of aircraft or spacecraft components can be observed. In the present paper an updated overview of scandium deposits, reserves, production, producers, and prices is given, with special focus on the Commonwealth of the Independent States (CIS). A brief introduction into the technical and metallurgical background of Al-Sc-alloys and other applications of Sc completes this report.
