Abstract

The advantages of optical phase modulation in view of high bit rate and high power channels was shown, as well as for packet switched networks. For the development of future city networks, for example, coexistence with present standard systems is important. The successful application of the DPSK transmission format to standard fiber WDM systems was shown, including the use of DPSK and amplitude shift keying (ASK) formats on the same fiber infrastructure.
