Abstract

This paper presents a signal model describing the reflectivity of road surfaces. Therefore, direct and multipath propagation of a radar wave scattering forward over a plain road surface are separated from each other. Measurements show that the signal model can be used to determine the effective permittivity of road surfaces. Additionally, a reference is generated to enable a comparison of different surfaces measured at different locations.
