Abstract

Aluminium alloys and welded details were selected that are used in ship structures and transportation vehicles. Two beam types in the alloys AlZn4. 5Mg 1 (7020) and AlMg4. 5Mn (5083) with different welded details were tested. The test were performed at three stress levels which cover a fatigue life range just below 10**5 up to 2. 10**6 cycles at stress ratio values R equals minus 1 (fully reversed) and plus 0. 1 (practically zero to tension). Welds were tested ultrasonically and butt welds were X-rayed for any major flaws. The results are presented as fatigue curves.
