Abstract

Manufacturing technologies pass through a certain kind of evolution. Thereby, the ability to produce a certain product is changing. Considering the manufacturing planning process from a strategic point of view, established manufacturing technologies inside the company have to be verified for being adequate and economically useable in the future. In this context, the questions have to be answered, at which stage of maturity an innovative manufacturing technology is fully available and when is it practical to change a certain technology. This article provides a contribution for evaluating the maturity of manufacturing technologies. Therefore a model is presented in order to map the stage of development (maturity) of a manufacturing technology by means of certain technology readiness levels and the related temporal course. Depending on this evaluation, the suggestion for active further developing innovative manufacturing technologies can be derived.
