Abstract
To evaluate the forming behavior of discontinuous dry carbon fiber sheets made by a novel fiber placement process, friction experiments with fiber materials are carried out. In some cases the non-crimped and not stitched unidirectional fiber material is combined with a reactive powder binder. Testing is done on a setup which was built and evaluated especially for this application. In the experiments the coefficient of friction varies between 0.25 and 1.7. It is shown that the binder material, the fiber angle and the temperature have major influences on the frictional behavior.
