Abstract
Following an analysis of 1.4 million patents, Genrich S. Altschuller has defined the stages of the inventing process. Today, a software package is available which is based on Altschuller's findings. However, before making use of a software which promises to support the creativity of the product developer in finding ideas, one should know precisely where the opportunities and limits of this software lie.
