Abstract

In this study, the reaction of ozone with benzo[a]pyrene (B[a]P) adsorbed on soot particles is investigated. By filter sample analysis, the decay of B[a]P and the formation of products are determined as a function of reaction time. Additional measurements with a tandem differential mobility analyzer (TDMA) and a variable supersaturation condensation nucleus counter (VSCNC) enabled to characterize the condensation properties of the particles. Rate equations describing the particles change of composition and condensation properties for a range of experimental conditions, and the reactive uptake coefficient for ozone on B[a]P-coated soot particles are presented.
