Abstract

A follow-up study was conducted of all patients who had been seen at the Psychosomatic Out-patient Clinic of the Technical University of Munich within a six-month period. The patients were sent a questionnaire about the earlier consultation, their relationship to the therapist consulted, the recommended treatment, their acceptance of the recommendation and their current situation. The response rate was 65%. A comparison of responders and nonresponders yielded no significant differences in sociodemographic or clinical variables and hence the sample (N=260) can be considered representative for the patients of the outpatient clinic. Data evaluation was mainly descriptive. Psychotherapy was recommended for 90% of the patients. The compliance was 58-76% (depending on the compliance measure used). The results suggest that the patients received appropriate treatment and were satisfied with it.
