Abstract

In Environmental Medicine the term "psychiatrization" is used more often than in other medical fields, mostly when it comes to unexplained syndromes attributed to environmental hazard, such as Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS). For a variety of reasons patients fear to be examined by a psychiatrist or to be diagnosed with a psychiatric disorder, which may lead to a delay in the onset of an adequate therapy. The following comment explains the term "psychiatrization", aims to understand the background for 1st renaissance and discusses possibilities to deescalate the ongoing debate.
