Abstract
In the context of a Germany-wide scaling-up study, the competence structure of professional vision was scrutinized using the tool Observer in a sample of N = 1029 pre-service teachers. Moreover, we examined to what extent the instrument can be used in a comparable way for pre-service teachers for different school types. Corresponding to the results of the scaling-study (N = 152), professional vision can be empirically assessed as one ability, with the differentiation of three aspects: description, explanation, and prediction. This competence structure is replicated for pre-service teachers for different school types. However, the interpretation of the item difficulties has to take the different school types into account.
