Abstract
The holistic evaluation of the ecological impact of a building on the environment is based on the consideration of pollu-tants emitted during the construction, maintenance, refurbishment and demolition phases of the building and accordingly goes beyond the purely energetic view during the utilization phase of the buil-ding. In order to draw up a viable estimate of the ecological costs in early stages of the design process, it is necessary to develop computer-aided methods that can be easily integrated into the planning process. In this paper we describe a product model-based approach that takes the individual emissions of building compo-nents into account. The relevant data are accessed from a central type catalogue provided by an internet database server for monito-ring pollution in terms of mass. To calculate the environmental con-tamination arising during the utilization phase, a special building.
