Abstract

This paper describes the development of the foundation of sports fields on very compressible and inhomogeneous subsoils. The concept includes prestressed geosynthetics to reduce differential settlements and to increase bearing capacity of insitu soil. To analyze the effectiveness and performance of the prestressing, calculations based on the Finite Element Method have been carried out. Different systems were examined by variations of the properties for the subgrade, thickness of the granular layer, stiffness of the geosynthetic and the degree of prestressing.
