Abstract
The laser mass spectrometry (LAMS) is used here as a tool for dynamic exhaust analytics. The high sensitivity (dependent on the laser wavelength) of this method makes the trace analysis of individual components down to the ppt range achievable. The time resolution for the measurement is determined by the repetition rate of the laser (20 Hz). Substances of interest are the nitrogen oxides, aromatic components and Carbon monoxide, whose concentrations are determined at different points of the emission cleaning process both of spark-ignited and of diesel engines. Further the burn procedures in the cylinder are examined, whereby statements about time of origin and concentration of NO or CO can be made.
