Abstract

Due to their high specific strength and stiffness fibre reinforced plastics (FRP) are not only significant in aviation and aerospace. Apart from potential for lightweight construction these materials offer additional possibilities for often disregarded applications helping to take an exceptional position for mechanical engineering. This is exemplary shown in the following article. However, there has to be a learning process before handling FRP efficient in that field. To assess the fitness of these materials in the right way a method will be developed to identify potential applications.
