Abstract

Optical second harmonic generation (SHG) and infrared absorption spectroscopy (IRAS) were used to study the CO adsorption layer on Pt(111) under potentiostatic control in an acid electrolyte. A complex potential dependence of the SH signal on the absolute adsorbate coverage as well as on the overlayer structure was observed.
