Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

The floristical diversity of meadow communities in Middle-Europe was rapidly decreasing during the last decades. Therefore restoration of such a man-made plant community has become an important task in nature conservation. Different techniques were tested, but there is hardly any experience on restoring meadows by planting missing species. In the presented experiment, plants of Centaurea jacea were put into swards of grassland. Different treatments (planting in a undisturbed, tilled, respectively ploughed stand) were chosen, to support the establishment. Vitality of these plants and development of the disturbed stand has been measured. After three years it has been prooved, that the success of this restoration-effort doesn't depend on a special treatment. Establishing of C. jacea was successful, when the conditions of location, extensification of land-use and reduce of the nutrient level are suitable. Composition and structure of the disturbed stand recovered completely.
