title = "Polymer-bound osmium oxide catalysts",
abstract = "Polymer-supported oxidic osmium catalysts based on cross-linked poly(4-vinyl pyridine) were synthesized by various routes and characterized by a number of physical techniques (Raman, IR, XPS, 13C and 15N solid-state NMR spectroscopy). Model compounds of type Os2O6L4 (L = pyridine, 4-iso-propyl pyridine, and 4-tert-butyl pyridine) were obtained under the conditions of the catalyst synthesis. The catalytic systems were successful in the dihydroxylation of alkenes.",

The FTIR and PI{\textquoteright}-Raman spectrometer were purchased with the help of the PHARE-ACCORD Programme No. H9 112-0152, and the research was supported by a COST D-4 programme. Support came also from the Bayerische Forschungsstiftung which is greatly acknowledged at this occasion. Funding Information: We thank Dr. 0. Althoff and Dipl.-Ing. B. Bock, central research HOECHST AG, for recording the XPS spectra, Dr. M. Kleine/Dipl.-Chem. W. Wachter for recording the TG-MS spectra, and Professor Dr. G. Schus-ter and co-workers for OS analysis. Furthermore, we thank Professor Dr. R.K. Harris (University of Durham) for fruitful discussions, the Pinguin Foundation for financial support, the Fonds der Chemischen Industrie for a Liebig Fellowship (J.B.), and the Alexander von Hum-",
