Abstract
Insecticides polluting the environment such as DDT or dieldrin accelerate drug metabolism in man. For some years polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) which are used inter alia as a softener additive for plastic products have been found as pollutants in the human environment. They have been discovered both in human fatty tissue and in maternal milk. The parameter chosen for drug metabolism was the activity of aminopyrine-demethylase, aniline p hydroxylase, and cytochromes P 450 and b5 in liver microsomes in PCB treated rats.
