Abstract

The phonon dispersion of β-Sc at 1400°C shows a valley of low energy phonons along the Brillouin zone surface. The close resemblance to the group 4 metals makes it probable that, besides transformation from the BCC into the HCP structure, a high pressure modification with ω-structure exists.
