Abstract

The phonon spectra emitted by superconducting Pb and PbBi tunnel junctions in the single particle tunneling regime were studied with a stress tuned Si : B spectrometer. An unexpected large contribution of phonons with an energy below 2 DELTA was found. The results are compared with solutions of the nonlinear coupled kinetic equations for quasiparticles and phonons.
