Abstract

Sustainable agriculture was the key concept scientists had in mind when they started a project in 1990 with a planned runtime of fifteen years. The FAM-project (FAM Munich Research Network on Agroecosystems), located at the cloister estate of Scheyern near Munich, Germany, sought to address the typical problems of intensive agriculture. The interdisciplinary research done by more than thirty groups of scientists aimed to record, assess, forecast and evaluate management induced changes in this agroecosystem.
