Abstract

In the course of three sampling cruises on the rivers, lakes and canals of the Oder-Spree system, samples of surface water, sediments and eels (Anguilla anguilla) were taken at 70 sites. These were then analysed for chlorinated hydrocarbons, PCDD/F, chlorinated phenols, and PAH compounds. High levels were found in samples from various sites, and levels of PCDD/F near the sintering plant of an iron works exceeded analogous data for the river Elbe near Dessau/Magdeburg.
