Abstract
Five patients aged 4-28 years (average 11 years) with pulmonary valve stenosis were subjected to percutaneous transluminal balloon valvuloplasty. Their cases are described. As a result of the valvuloplasty, the mean peak-systolic pressure difference between the right ventricle and the pulmonary artery decreased from 46 to 21 mmHg, and the functional valvular area increased from 0.43 to 0.75 sq.cm per sq.m of body surface (75%). No complications occurred. The advantages of this method of surgical treatment are discussed.
