Abstract

The range cruise of a future hypersonic flight vehicle is considered. Applying realistic models for vehicle dynamics and unsteady heat transfer, trajectory optimization is used to construct solutions for minimizing fuel consumption and reducing thermal loads. Efficient numerical techniques are used to cope with the difficulties of this complex optimal control problem.
