Abstract

The structure of the Jabal Aritain volcano is presented as well as some chemical analyses of its pyroclastic and basaltic layers, which show a weak relationship between SiO2, Al2O3, K2O+Na2O amounts, and the relative age of the different pyroclastic and basaltic layers. Inclusions of sedimentary and metamorphic rocks give some evidence of the composition of the crust below Jabal Aritain. Below a sequence of limestone, sandstone, and argillaceous rocks, is cut by the volcanic explosion pipe of Jabal Aritain, gneissic and gabbroic rocks are situated. These rocks suffered a multistage deformation and metamorphism. Effects of annealing by the basaltic melt are visible in the inclusions of metamorphic rocks.-Authors
