Abstract
A propulsion system, which is a combination of both the chemical and the electrical propulsion, can be operated sequentially or simultaneously. In this paper only the simultaneous operation is investigated. After an analysis, which shows, that the tandem mode does deliver the highest equivalent jet velocity for a given electrical power input a specific tandem propulsion system is discussed in some detail. Finally the combined propulsion system is compared with the Ackeret-Cycle and the maximum acceleration that is obtainable is discussed.
