Abstract
The mutual dependency between a programming methodology and a programming language is investigated. The methodology aids the development of software by a formal framework supporting the full spectrum of the software construction process from the initial requirement engineering to the final code optimization. Thus a programming language is required which is of considerable expressive power, that is, a 'wide spectrum' language. The basic design objective of the language is to make the program construction more transparent, more reliable, and formally sound.
