Abstract
The design procedures used worldwide for composite columns in case of fire with partially simplified approaches provide impetus to an exact comparison on tangible examples. The numerical analysis of a composite column with ANSYS Workbench [1] is described in detail in this paper. The validation mainly relies on external test results of Romero and Espinos [12]. Finally, the numerical results are compared with generally applicable procedures, such as in DIN EN 1994-1-2 [16] which is the currently valid standard in Germany.
