Abstract

The paper presents the results of a full-assembly three-dimensional Navier-Stokes calculation of a typical s-shaped transition duct configuration of short axial length and huge radial slope in front of a modern high-pressure compressor. The investigated duct has got nine thin and one thick strut followed by a row of forty HPC inlet guide vanes. The results give an understanding of the three-dimensional flow field around the struts and the interaction of the struts with the HPC inlet guide vanes. A comparison to two-dimensional calculations and test results is provided where available and shows the suitability of the used method for the duct design.
