Abstract

We investigate the electromagnetic and axial currents and corresponding form factors of solitons resulting from a non-linear chiral theory of pions, ρ and ω mesons. The vector mesons are introduced as dynamical gauge bosons of a hidden SU(2) × U(1) symmetry. With only two parameters which are determined completely in the meson sector, we obtain satisfactory results for both the electromagnetic and axial form factors of the nucleon. While the baryon number distribution inside the nucleon has a small size, about 0.5 fm, the electromagnetic radii are substantially larger due to the role of vector mesons and their direct couplings to photons in accordance with vector meson dominance. The nucleon axial form factor is also well reproduced.
