Abstract

The x-ray cascade from antiprotonic atoms was studied for [Formula Presented] [Formula Presented] [Formula Presented] and [Formula Presented] Widths and shifts of the levels due to strong interaction were deduced. Isotope effects in Cd and Sn isotopes were investigated. The results are used to determine the nucleon density in the nuclear periphery. The deduced neutron distributions are compared with the results of the previously introduced radiochemical method and with Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov calculations.
