Abstract
The 238U(3He, α)237U reaction was studied with a 30 MeV 3He beam. Transferred angular momenta and spectroscopic factors were determined. Theoretical spectroscopic factors were calculated including Coriolis band mixing. By comparison of both the measured and calculated spectroscopic factors and the experimental and theoretical (DWBA) angular distributions of the emitted alpha particles, the following Nilsson levels were identified in 237U: 3 2, 7 2, 9 2, 11 2[631↓]; 9 2, 11 2, ( 13 2) [622↑]; 11 2, ( 13 2), 15 2[743↑]; ( 11 2[624↓]); 9 2, 11 2[631↑]; 9 2, 11 2, 13 2[633↓] and 15 2[752↑]. Weak transitions to members of the [501↓] band were observed. Additional tentative assignments are discussed.
