Abstract

The single proton transfer reactions U238(He3, d)Np239 and U238(α, t)Np239 have been measured with 28.5-MeV He3 and α particles, respectively. The experimental cross sections are compared with theoretical cross sections in order to determine l values and to construct a level scheme of Np239. The configurations 52+[642], 52-[523], 1/2-[530], and 32-[521] are identified. Levels of the four additional rotational bands 1/2+[400], 32+[651], 72+[633], and 72-[514] are assigned tentatively. A level scheme of Np239 containing γ rays following the β decay of U239 is presented also. NUCLEAR REACTIONS U238(He3, d), U238(α, t), E=28.5 MeV; measured σ(θ). deduced l values, Nilsson configurations, and level scheme of Np239.
