Abstract
The number of video cameras in our environment is increasing. On the one hand the cameras are used in automated surveillance scenarios to protect the people against the threat of potential trespassers or to solve already committed crimes faster. On the other hand, video cameras are used more often as input devices for communication with intelligent machines. Whether for communication with machines, enhanced control of devices by gestures or for consumer electronics in the form of an innovative control of games, it is beneficial or even necessary to split up the images to areas of movement and to static regions. Thus in most cases, the obtained images are processed with the objective to detect movement in the images.
