Abstract

The importance of effects non-linear in the nuclear density in low energy kaon-nucleus interactions is investigated using a schematic picture for correlations between strange baryons and nucleons in connection with an analysis of the kaon self energy in nuclear matter. Several ways of extrapolating the KN amplitude below threshold are employed. The results indicate that effects non-linear in nuclear density play a non-negligible role in low energy kaon-nucleus scattering.
