Abstract
On the basis of the present state of development of shovels, the trade situation of the past few years, and the design of the machines, it is forecast that the hydraulic shovel will be used increasingly. Cable shovels and hydraulic excavators are now produced in West Germany in the ratio of 1 to 9. This ratio has been maintained for some time. It is estimated that 70 percent of the 40,000 excavators operating in West Germany are hydraulic, and the proportion is expected to increase.
