Abstract
The population lifetimes of the symmetric CH2-stretching mode of several methylene halides were measured after infrared excitation by spontaneous anti-Stokes Raman scattering of delayed picosecond probe pulses. Data ranging from 6.5 to 45 ps are reported. The results give evidence for vibrational energy transfer via anharmonic coupling to neighbouring vibrational combination bands and overtones.
