Abstract
Despite yearly growth rates rising personnel and material costs put the plastics industry under significant pressure. Besides a progressing wave of concentration the optimisation and advancement of production and logistics processes has to be focussed and processes have to be aligned with the requirements of global value chains. New production systems are able to realise the combination of cost and performance leadership. They are not only integrating the well-known methods of lean production, but also elements like relocation planning, global ramp up management, global sourcing as well as controlling instruments.
