N2 - Treatment of the rhenium(III) alkyne complex (η5-C5Me5)ReCl2(η2-PhCCPh) with one equivalent of allylmagnesiumchloride and subsequent heating in toluene yields the carbon-to-carbon coupling product (η5-C5Me5)ReCl[η5-HC(Ph)-C(Ph)-C(H)C(H)CH2]. This reaction follows a retrosynthetic analysis of ReIII 2,4-pentadienyl systems. This result confirms the feasibility of CC bond formation at the [(η5-C5Me5)ReCl]+ fragment when a 1,3-hydride rearrangement with formation of π-conjugated systems is possible.
