Abstract
A consequence of mounting requirements of markets is the clear trend to decentralized factory structures both with regard to space and organization. Small, flexible and focussed production systems are more adequate than complex organizations to offer innovative and differentiated products within ever shorter cycles. In this article, interplant network structures and their potential for improving the competitive position are discussed.
