Abstract

Orange crystals of NaRb4[(WN2.5O0.5)2] and NaCs4[(WN2.5O0.5)2] were obtained by the reaction of stoichiometric mixtures of WO3, tungsten powder and sodium amide with an excess of rubidium amide or cesium amide, resp., in autoclaves at 600°C. The compounds crystallize orthorhombic in the space group Ibam (Z = 4) with the unit cell parameters: NaRb4[(WN2.5O0.5)2] a = 7.193(1) Å, b = 23.138(4) Å and c = 6.209(2) Å and NaCs4[(WN2.5O0.5)2]: a = 7.430(1) Å, b = 24.318(3) Å, c = 6.261(2) Å. The crystal structures contain chains of corner sharing tetrahedra of ligands around tungsten 1[WX2X2/22.5-] (X = O,N). Two of these chains are linked by sodium atoms to double chains. These double chains form the motif of a hexagonal rod packing. The rubidium and cesium atoms resp., connect the chains three-dimensionally.
