Abstract
Quite often there exists a conflict between recreation management and preservation of nature, which results from the fact that recreation planning favours solutions that are profitable and easy to realize. Ecological aspects, however, often are neglected. But this conflict can be overcome -if there is a better differentiation between active and inactive forms of recreation; -if we do not only consider landscape attractability but also the ecological limitations of the recreation area; -if we have more knowledge about the restrictions given by several recreation activities -if landscape planning gives detailed ideas about conservation and management of biotopes and if there are consistent plans for natural preservation, and -if the legal enforcements, such as trespassing restrictions, are employed consequently.
