Abstract

After commencement of new suburban train operations using the tunnel section beneath the Arts and Crafts Museum, the noise and vibration level proved to be unacceptably high. The fitting of a rubber skirt between the building support structure and the track brought no decisive improvements. The pre-tunnel noise level in the museum was restored by installing a mass-suspension system and a below-ballast matting on a section of the line.
