Abstract

Despite significant further developments in the verification methods in stage 2 of the recalculation guideline, some existing structures can still only be verified using scientific methods in stage 4 due to the higher traffic loads and the changed design principles. This poses a challenge for both users and decision-makers in the road construction authorities when selecting verification methods and evaluating calculation results in stage 4. Therefore, recommendations for the selection of suitable analytical verification methods (Extended Compressive Arch Model – (E)DBM, Flexural Shear Crack Model – FSCM, Modified Compression Field Theory according to the Canadian standard – CSA/MCFT) and numerical methods according to the FE method were developed for the recalculation of concrete bridges in order to enable a safe and effective recalculation. Minimum requirements and application limits for the various methods are identified and issues arising during application and calculation are discussed.
