Abstract

Flexible endoscopy is increasingly being used for therapeutic interventions, such as endoluminal resection of early neoplasms. However, the currently available endoscopes do not adequately fulfill the requirements for this new application. Just recently several potential solutions for a dedicated, therapeutic endoscope have been presented. This review addresses the requirements for this new kind of endoscope and briefly characterizes available prototypes.
