Abstract

Multiphoton excitation and ionization techniques, as used in conjunction with mass spectrometry, are reviewed. The approach combines spectroscopy and spectrometry, enabling very high levels of sensitivity and specificity, and soft ionization to hard photo-dissociation flexibility. Excitation schemes and various multiphoton instrumental configurations are illustrated and described.
