Abstract

The techniques needed to create monodispersed cluster assembled materials were analyzed. Molecular beam techniques are found to be the most successful method for the preparation of monodispersed cluster materials, since chemical methods in solution are not able to produce metal particles of a single precise size 1 and 100 atoms. It was observed that monodispersed clusters assembled materials with unique chemical and physical properties can be prepared by the use of gas phase cluster preparation in combination with mass selection and soft-landing techniques. The results show that by judicious choice of support materials, the prepared cluster-assembled materials are even stable at elevated temperatures.
